business pleasureCENTAUR | Detroit

Located directly behind the Fox Theatre, in the heart of Detroit’s sports and entertainment district, Centaur is the perfect spot to meet before, after, or instead! The Metropolitan didn’t make up that line – someone at Centaur did – but it’s true. Owner Sean Harrington and crew have done a fine job in creating this top shelf, deco style, Martini bar. Sophisticated, well appointed and finely staffed, Centaur offers the perfect location for cocktails and conversation, while managing to maintain its sense of humour. The bar and kitchen are open seven days a week, from 4 pm – 2 am, with a daily Happy Hour between 4-7, serving $5 Martinis, with flavors like Lemon Meringue, Pomegranate and Wasabi and specials like the Detroiter, Ultimate Godiva and the Dirty Girl Scout (naughty naughty). Centaur has a very nice wine and champagne selection, saki, port and serves a variety of bottled and draught beer.

THE EMORY | Ferndale

According to their website, the Emory is named after Emory Johnson (1898-1963), a hard working farmer from the Toledo area. The hardwood behind the bar was harvested from family woods in 1986. Before construction began, the Emory was gutted down to nothing, when all usable material was carefully stockpiled. Much of that material was incorporated into the new infrastructure of the new construction. The Emory funds its own recycling program and claims to make a difference. They recycle glass, cardboard and plastic and use the oil remaining from the making of fries and such to power their delivery vehicle. If that is not enough, The Emory serves a $5 burger every Tuesday (beef, turkey or black bean), serves a very hip crowd in downtown fashionable Ferndale and has one of the most beautiful bar counters in the state. Open Mon thru Fri 11am – 2am, Sat & Sun 9 am – 2 am.
