The footprints of a man describe him; they are the map of his soul. To adventure in music is always an uncertain jungle, to which is necessary special bravery. Those who embark upon this journey not always come back unharmed. “The night hurts you as much as it needs to”, is a saying over here.

Far from the Bayou, far from New York’s alleys, Memphis’ nights, far from Saint Louis’ middle west, the Congo Square of New Orleans, the same blood links Germán Siman with the tunes from Louisiana: Jazz.

Born in Córdoba, Argentina, he dedicated his life to music. He is an eminent jazz drummer. His talent and curiosity but above all his nobleness help him to become a referent of the gender in a part of the world where black music choose other ways of expressing itself, also intense and powerful.

Cultivator of a low profile, he chooses doing instead of talking. His talent and discipline took him to live multiple experiences, bringing Jazz as a flag. The prints of his journeys take him to dictate seminaries at the Shell Lake Art Center of Wisconsin or at the Jazz Lincoln Center of New York.  His soul has enriched by teaching at his Fundación Cultural La Escuelita, also helping the Campamento de Jazz de Temuco or the Victoria Music Camp, in the city of Victoria, Chile.

Since 2019 he represents Argentina’s Jazz Education Abroad, as well as the International Association for Jazz Education since 2007. That same year SABIAN (drum enterprise) confides to him its products, an unknown privilege on these lands.

Amazing star constellate beside him in this journey: Sid Jacobs, Dominic Spera, Matt Asynazzo, Quique Sinesi, Nick Schneider, Tim Bell, Lennie Foy, Jhon Stowell, Bill Barnard, Steve Zenz, among others are only some of the names with whom he has shared stage.

With his Big Band Córdoba Jazz Orchestra carries on an ambitious music project, rescuing local composers. “Comechingonia”, is the name of his first album, a tribute to our Sioux.

“Cain” was his rock band’s name. when he was very young I saw him play his huge drums in a small room in Villa El Libertador. I didn’t know that many years later I’d share that anecdote to which he confirmed: “Yes, that was me that night behind those drums”.

To compare that frenetic rock drummer to the subtle jazz teacher he is today hasn’t stopped amazing me. He was, without a doubt defining the rhythm of his pulse.

Córdoba Camp Jazz is a pioneer experience in South America teaching Jazz music. Each time I went I felt invisible rivers, magic in the air, improvisation veins that link old Nancy whiskey’s spirit to abandoned ghosts in the corners of Córdoba. Jazz is blood in a torrent that takes us far away and German Siman, from the south of the world, keeps drawing his soul making his drums beat.
