Precedence of the spirit and will to lift a kite up in the air as a way to heal, laugh, and be together even through distance – after much meditation this is where the team over at Detroit Kite FestivalTM has landed.

In difficult times or in bliss, the Detroit Kite FestivalTM is still about radical inclusion, shared healing, and communal play, which is why more than ever they are ecstatic to announce the launch of their online Little Kite Shop.

Starting this Saturday the online shop will be fully functional, with everything from official Detroit Kite FestivalTM Apparel, to a Bali Dragon Graphic Kite, and even Do-It-Yourself Kite Kits!

The response and attendance from last year was overwhelming, so much so that they ended up completely selling out of kites. This year they decided to let residents of Metro-Detroit, and even folks around the country, have pre-fest access to their inventory for 3 reasons:

  1. They love it when others love to fly kites, so getting kites in advance is even better.
  2. They have a small fundraising gap to fill as they plan and prepare for the 2020 event.
  3. The ongoing health crises in the community has shown that in addition to important essentials people still need access to nature, recreation, and joy.

“Launching a kite shop to help us get past the fundraising finish line is great, but we’re even more excited to be able to donate kites, let people ‘pay it forward’ so to speak, so those who would like a kite this summer can get one,” says Margo Dalal, Detroit kite Festival team.

For now the annual event remains scheduled for Sunday, July 12, 2020 beside the James Scott Memorial Fountain on Belle Isle. However, organizers are weighing options as circumstances unfold. The traditional festival together on the island, an interactive but decentralized one, or something yet discovered – all options are on the table. Until then, the DKF team invites everyone, young and old, to find them online.
