Now that Detroit is a food town, with a multitude of new and fashionable restaurants popping up every other week, we thought it might be good to remind our readers that one can still eat well at the local American Eatery.

Atomic Dawg | Berkley

Hot dogs are about as American as it gets, and every now and then I am as guilty as the next guy for having a craving that simply must be addressed. Atomic Dawg has the ability to satisfy that craving. With about 12 dogs on the menu including, Atomic Dawg (split, grilled, and filled with stuff), Milwaukee Dawg (Canadian Slaw and mustard), or The D (Al’s famous chili and onions), I’m sure they can satisfy yours as well. But, I never tried any of those. Why? Because, each time I hit Atomic Dawg I order Hula Dawg (Teriyaki sauce, grilled pineapple, grilled onion, lettuce and Japanese cherry tomato).

And, why do I do that? Because, I am the Editor In Chief!

Looks like a Burger

Campau Tower | Hamtramck

This small American eatery, located in the city within the city, Hamtramck, changed hands about a year ago, and has really upped its burger game. Owned by the same street gourmand that brought us Rock City Pies (founded in Rustbelt Market), and Rock City Eatery, also in Hamtramck, Nikita Santches dazzles late night diners with an array of countertop specialties, from shakes to dogs, pork sandwiches to fries. But, it is the glorious Burger, in all of Santches variations, that keeps me sneaking in late night.

Fried Chicken Plate

Guernsey Farms Dairy | Northville

Celebrating 75 years of producing quality Michigan products, made right in Northville, Guernsey Farms Dairy also runs a nice little family restaurant, which happens to produce delicious fried chicken. Along with Baker’s Keyboard Lounge (Detroit), and Chicken in the Rough (Port Huron), Guernsey ranks, in this reporter’s opinion, in the top three places to go for fried chicken in the state. Fried chicken dinners come with wedge potatoes, slaw, and a double scoop of homemade Guernsey Ice cream.
