Commerce is the channel through which we exchange our ideas, develop our communities, and collaborate to achieve our goals. As a result, it is the practice of commerce that – more than anything else – defines how we impact our environment, our people, and our profits. For this reason, it is critical that the relationship between commerce and community is at the forefront of our business practices.

In this event, we will explore the interrelationship between commerce and community. We will examine the role of triple bottom line business practice in creating a sustainable future for our community.

“Intersection” begins with a panel discussion among local subject matter experts. These conversations will provide insights into the emergent practice of sustainable, triple bottom line business in Detroit. Our panelists include:

  • Joel Howrani-Heeres, Director of Sustainability, City of Detroit
  • Dakota Korth, Department Executive, Wayne County EDC
  • Kimle Nailer, President, Nail Rite
  • Kelly Wilson, SE Michigan Local Food Coordinator, Taste the Local Difference

Attendees will then be given the opportunity to participate in a charrette, wherein facilitated small groups will explore perspectives on community, commerce and emerging sustainable business practice.
